Play: A Brief Synopsis

What Is Play?

Principle 1: Play is self-chosen and self-directed; Players are free to quit.

Principle 2: Play is activity in which means are more valued than ends.

Principle 3: Play is guided by mental rules.

Principle 4: Play is non-literal, imaginative, marked off in some way from reality.

Principle 5: Play involves an active, alert, but non-stressed frame of mind.

What Is Playology?

Playology is the study of the methods, concepts, purpose, importance, and development of play. Play is a self-directed activity that through imagination and creativity cultivates the natural interests/tendencies of the person. Play is not only for little kids, it is for everyone, for without play the creative process tends to stagnate the abilities of the person.

What Is a Playologist?

A playologist is a person who understands the importance of play, advocates for the protection of play, and studies self directed/self-chosen activities at all age groups.
